Scenes from the Asbury Park Zombie Walk
Every fall, the Asbury Park boardwalk turns into a full-on horror movie set, in the best way. Thousands of people show up covered in fake blood, prosthetics, and some genuinely unsettling makeup. There are families pushing strollers, groups of friends who clearly planned their looks weeks in advance, and a few participants who could honestly land a role in The Walking Dead.
What makes the Zombie Walk so good isn’t just the costumes, although they’re incredible. It’s the energy of it all. People are laughing, screaming, posing for photos, and somehow managing to sip Rook cold brew through fake vampire teeth. You’ll see everything from classic undead brides to full-scale movie scenes recreated right on the boardwalk.
From a photographer’s point of view, it’s irresistible. The fall light off the ocean is soft and silvery, which makes the reds and shadows pop even more. It’s equal parts eerie and beautiful, and it perfectly fits Asbury’s vibe: creative, strange, and never afraid to stand out.
If you’ve never been, put it on your list for next year. Even if horror isn’t your thing, it’s worth walking the boardwalk just to see the creativity up close. And if it is your thing, bring your camera and go all in.
